2023 Ford F-150 Single Cab

The Challenge

The owner of a 2023 Ford F-150 single cab wanted a massive sound upgrade with heavy, deep bass. Single cab trucks present a major space constraint — there is very little room behind the seats for subwoofers, and installing amplifiers requires careful layout to avoid seat interference.

The Hillside Solution

Kevin Lembke constructed a custom high-output system tailored for the single cab cabin:

1. Upgraded Source Control: Replaced the base radio with an Alpine Halo9 floating touchscreen receiver, giving the driver Apple CarPlay and advanced EQ tuning options.
2. Active 3-Way Front Stage: Installed JL Audio C3 components in the factory door and pillar locations, running active crossovers for precise staging.
3. Custom Subwoofer Enclosure: Designed and built a custom form-fitted MDF enclosure back-mounted against the cabin wall, loaded with two Kicker L7S Solo-Baric square subwoofers for maximum cone surface area.
4. Power System: Powered the subwoofers with a high-current AudioControl LC-1.800 amplifier mounted on a custom laser-cut amp rack behind the passenger seat.

Results

Thumping chest-hitting bass that fits comfortably inside a compact cabin. The high-performance square subwoofers deliver incredible low-end response, while the active front stage ensures vocals stay clean and balanced over the massive bass output.
