What is a DOD / AFM delete and why is it required?

Displacement on Demand (DOD) / Active Fuel Management (AFM) drops four cylinders under light loads. This uses spring-loaded lifters that regularly collapse, lock up, and score the camshaft. A physical delete replaces these with solid LS7-style lifters, a non-AFM camshaft, and updates the ECM software to disable the system permanently.

Can you disable AFM / DOD using software only?

A software-only tune turns off cylinder dropping in the computer, which helps prevent future wear, but it does NOT fix already weakened or damaged spring lifters. If your engine is already ticking or has high mileage, a physical delete is the only safe solution.

Does performance tuning affect Alaskas winter starting?

No, we write cold-start enrichment tables directly to keep vehicle starts reliable in sub-zero weather. Idle stability is thoroughly tested under heavy electrical load (heater, defroster, seats).
